REBUILDING LIVES
WALK 2012
It was a perfect autumn day - cool, crisp air; hills brilliant with color; and 225 excited walkers Sunday, October 21st, the day of our 24th annual Walk to Prevent Homelessness.
The day’s event started with drum rolls from three Mount Everett high school band members: Karina Alden, Charlotte Amsted, and Jake Smerechniak. They continued drumming all the way to the first check point at 314 State Rd. where walkers stopped for refreshment. Those who were interested peeked into the house to see the newest of Construct’s housing options before continuing their 3.5 mile trek to the Endpoint at Construct offices located at 41 Mahaiwe St. For an additional treat, this year music at the end was provided by Rob Sanzone and the Berkshire Ukelele Band. What fun!
Among the walkers were teams from West Stockbridge Congregational Church, Stockbridge Congregational Church, Trinity Lutheran and Christ Church, St. James Episcopal, Our Lady of the Valley (Team Ben walking in memory of, Old Parish, Great Barrington Congregational Church, Lee Congregational Church. Unitarian Universalist Meeting; Friend’s Meeting of South Berkshire, Church of Christ Scientist, Monterey Congregational Church, Hevreh, Fairview Commons, Get Fit, Weight Watchers, All Caring Veterinary Services, Lee High School, Monument High School, Rail Road Street Youth, and the Boy Scouts. Of these teams, Trinity Lutheran/Christ Church raised the most money on the Walk with over $5000!
The Youth that raised the most money was Aurora Maldonado, followed up by Talia Pott and Haley Barbieri. The highest fundraising individuals was Brian and Amy Butterworth.
Our thanks to over 50 people or businesses who contributed, volunteered, or provided refreshments on the day of the Walk.
How much Construct appreciates all our Walkers. Together you raised $35,000 to prevent homelessness!
